Ruzel Mura
Lives and works between Istanbul and Lisbon.
Primarily oil and tempera on linen, built in translucent layers; occasional works on paper in gouache and silverpoint.
Ruzel Mura (b. 1991) is a contemporary painter whose work lives at the threshold between abstraction and figuration. Raised between the Black Sea coast and a textile workshop, Mura grew up surrounded by watered-silk patterns and the moiré — the shimmer produced when two fine grids overlap and a third, impossible image appears.
Mura's paintings chase that third image. Built up in thin, translucent veils of oil and tempera, each surface holds several layers in tension at once: a remembered interior, a field of pure interference, a figure dissolving into its own afterimage. The result is quiet but unstable — paintings that seem to move slightly when you move.
Working between studios in Istanbul and Lisbon, Mura paints slowly, usually finishing no more than twenty works a year. Recent series — 'Tide Index', 'Soft Machines', and 'Letters to No One' — extend a long preoccupation with thresholds: doorways, coastlines, the edge of sleep, the moment a pattern becomes a face.
The practice is deliberately small and direct. Mura sells primarily through this studio site and a handful of auctions, preferring to place works with collectors who will live with them rather than store them.

- Soft Machines
- Bodies becoming pattern; pattern becoming body. The series that named the practice.
- Letters to No One
- Small intimate works on paper — fragments of language dissolving into field.
Themes
- Interference and the moiré effect
- Memory, afterimage and the half-remembered
- Thresholds — coastlines, doorways, the edge of sleep
